Important Message from IEA President

As you know, Governor Rauner is taking action to weaken unions that represent state employees by eliminating fair share for 6,500 state workers.
There are two important things to understand:
  • The action the governor took Monday does not impact IEA members. It affects only employees of the State of Illinois, not school districts.
However …
  • We anticipate the governor will eventually target IEA, IFT and all public employee unions. As we are advocates for quality education, for high quality teaching and learning conditions in our schools and for middle-class families, we are opposed to anything that will lower education quality and the standard of living for Illinoisans in every part of our state.
(Find fair share talking points on the IEA website.)
We need you to get ready.
When the inevitable attack on IEA and the other unions comes, as it did for our colleagues in Wisconsin and elsewhere, it is critical that we are able to contact you immediately so we can fight back.
Please make sure your “IEA member profile” is current.
  • Please give IEA your home email address. Your school email could be blocked, so we need to have your home email on file.
  • In case of an emergency, we need your cell phone number so you can be alerted immediately via text when the attack comes.
Either click this link to be taken to the IEA member profile on the IEA website, or call IEA Connect (toll free1-844-IEA-1800) to speak with an IEA staff person. IEA Connect calls are taken 7 a.m. – 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The IEA app will alert you the minute information is posted on the IEA web site or social media sites. (Download it free on the App Store, or Google play.)
Get ready. Get connected.
We’re in for the fight of our lives.
